People seem very hesitant to link high fructose corn syrup to weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems, but the scary truth is (whether people want to admit it or not) there is a serious connection! This super-sweet, super-concentration chemical concoction is wreaking havoc on our health.
In a recent article , researchers have zeroed-in on soft drinks in particular and they have found solid correlations between the consumption of soft drinks high in HFCS and many health issues. The increase in soft drink consumption has led to an increase in these health issues. It doesn’t take PhD to see the connection.
This quote from the article is simply alarming:
“A single serving of soda or other sweetened soft drink contains between 120 and 200 calories of sugar, equivalent to a man’s recommended intake for a full day and exceeding the recommended daily intake for a woman.”
How many sodas do you drink in one day? One? Three? More than three? Most people who drink soda will at least have 2-3 throughout their day. And people, I hate to tell ya, but the diet and “Zero” varieties aren’t any better for you! In fact, all things considered, they may be worse for you!
Many of the diet soft drinks contain aspartame (Nutrasweet and Equal), which has been proven over and over again to contribute to cancerous cell growth. For more information on the aspartame in our diet soft drinks, and its effect on us, click here.
HFCS is not healthy! Don’t believe them when they tell you it’s just the same as sugar. It is a super-concentrated sweetener, made from corn (not sugar!) that clearly is having a negative effect on our health-especially our youth’s health. We need to educate ourselves (and our children) about the health risks involved in consuming it.
It is a sad, sad day when the drinks sold in the vending machines of every school, business office, and local convenience store could end up being the death of us, but people, today is that sad, sad day.
