The Cowboys and Bears enter their Week 14 “Thursday Night Football” matchup with identical 6-6 records, yet they occupy completely different spaces in the NFL playoff picture. Dallas leads the NFC East and is on the road to the playoffs, while projection systems have Chicago’s playoff chances at about 3 percent.
That puts the Bears in position to play spoiler to Dallas on Thursday, potentially pushing the Cowboys under .500 and back toward the Eagles, who sit in second place in the division with a 5-7 record.

Dallas has lost each of its past two games, including dropping a 26-15 Thanksgiving tilt to the Bills. The franchise as a whole does not seem to be weathering the underperformance particularly well; owner Jerry Jones called out the coaching staff following a loss to New England, and former quarterback Troy Aikman subsequently attacked Jones in the press for perceived mismanagement.
Chicago’s mediocrity isn’t masked by a weak division, with the Packers and Vikings’ combined 17-7 record leaving the Bears in a distant third place. Still, with games against Green Bay and Minnesota remaining on the schedule, coach Matt Nagy’s squad can hold out hope for a miracle, so long as it wins games such as Thursday’s.
