Lamar Jackson has proven more than once this year that’s matchup-proof, and we generally feel the same way about Patrick Mahomes despite some down games. After Sunday night’s dismantling of the Patriots, we have to say the same about Deshaun Watson, too. Dak Prescott could (emphasis on “could”) do the same. Regardless, all are in tough spots heading into the first week of the fantasy playoffs, even if most are still high in our Week 14 fantasy QB rankings.
Again, Jackson (@ Bills) and Mahomes (@ Patriots) are still in our top three — and Watson remains in our top seven — but Prescott is out of our starter’s tier. As are Jameis Winston (vs. Colts), Josh Allen (vs. Ravens), and Drew Brees (vs. 49ers). We know all can put up big numbers, especially Allen and Prescott, who can pad their stats with their legs, but it’s tough to feel great about any during such an important week.
WEEK 14 NON-PPR RANKINGS:
Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker
Of course, the question is, “Who replaces them?” The top matchup plays for Week 14 appear to be Sam Darnold (vs. Dolphins), Ryan Tannehill (@ Raiders), Jacoby Brissett (@ Buccaneers), and Jimmy Garoppolo (@ Saints). There are reliability issues with those players, too, but at least the matchups are significantly in their favors.
Hey, at least we’re not suggesting Kyle Allen (@ Falcons), Duck Hodges (@ Cardinals), or Drew Lock (@ Texans), who also have great matchups. Although Duck did look pretty good last week…
Overall, quarterback is a position where you can take your chances with talented, proven players even in tough matchups, but it’s also a position where favorable matchups tend to be pretty reliable, at least for decent QBs. We tend to favor matchups in most cases, but trust your gut with these tough start ’em, sit ’em decisions.
Reminder: Check back for rankings updates throughout the week.
