Last night I saw a program on TV about the issue of health in eating butter and margarine. They discussed what's best for you, so they interviewed health experts who said butter is made of natural ingredients where as margarine has all sorts of poisonous oils in them that will promote free radicals in your body, make you fat and develop chronic diseases.

Here are 5 facts about butter and margarine:

  1. Butter is considered to be a good oil to cook in . Butter is one of 3 saturated fat oils that are healthy to cook with, the other two are coconut and palm oils. Saturated fat is not so reactive to heat thus do not produce so much free radicals and other toxins.
  2. Margarine is one of the most evil foods in our food supply. Margarine is made of trans fats. Together with hydrogenated oils and shortening – margarine is a by product of highly processed oils that are being put on shelves in stores purely to make a lot of money on the account of our health.
  3. Hydrogenated oils are poisons and margarine IS exactly that. It is made of that stuff and will promote fat storage in your body that you cannot out work in the gym but will also promote chronic diseases.
  4. Butter is much more recommended than margarine in your diet. In his book Truth about Six Pack Abs, Mike Geary (a nutrition specialist and a certified personal trainer) provide you with 72 meal ideas to consume together with exercises you can do at home. I've just counted how many time the word butter appears in his 72 meal recommendations and got to 12. That includes all sorts of nut batters and cocoa butter which are all healthy fat and are good for you.
  5. Eating lots of butter WILL make you fat. So yes, butter is mu ch better for you than margarine but eating too much of it will promote fat storage as well. The idea is to have a balanced diet that contains a portion of protein, a portion of carbs and a portion of healthy fats.

To sum it all up, there is what you already know about diet and nutrition, but there is also a life style change which is when new information about our food is revealed and you open your mind and listen to it. Once you are able to do that you will be open to a whole new world of information that will change you life style and health and eating habits and will throw you into a new way of life where you keep fit just because you ate the right food .
