Making Exercise a Priority For You and Your Family

If you’re like most people you have gained some weight during the holidays and want to start exercising or want to take your fitness to another level in 2011. In today’s age where there doesn’t seem to be not enough time during the day, there is one aspect of our life we cannot neglect and that is our health. We owe it to ourselves to get into shape and for those with children you need to become an example especially now with the obesity rate being so high among children who rather stay indoors and play video games.And speaking of video games, we as parents need to keep a watchful eye on our children because today’s video games are just as addictive as any drug or alcohol.

Words just can’t express just how important exercising is and how it has helped me personally not only physically, but psychologically as well especially during past tough times in my life. It is said by many spiritual and motivational teachers, how important it is to spend one on one time with yourself not only to reflect,but on how your sub-conscious mind will give you the answers to your most sought after questions during this time and I have discovered that when exercising, these dormant forces come alive with even greater force.

Another major issue in today’s society is the trust between patient and doctor, now don’t get me wrong I am not saying not to trust all doctors, but when you walk into a doctor’s office nowadays and see more pharmaceutical reps than patients, it makes you wonder if most doctor’s have your best health interest in mind or are they thinking about those perks they receive from recommending certain drugs.

I can tell you from personal experience how one day I was feeling the effects of tendinitis on my knee from playing basket ball and visited a doctor who immediately wanted to prescribe Vioxx. Good thing I took the advice of a friend who advised me to just lose weight to relieve the pressure on my knee and it worked! Consequently, Vioxx was eventually taken off the market because of its serious side effects.

In conclusion, take the initiative this year to start exercising, eating well, living a healthy lifestyle and not becoming another statistic in addition, I can’t think of a better way to spend time with your family then doing an outside exercise activity with them for example: bicycle riding, walking, jogging, playing sports, or hiking.
