The Tampa Bay Lightning won their game Thursday vs. the Chicago Blackhawks but lost their captain in the process.
Steven Stamkos left the 4-2 victory after suffering a lower-body injury in the first period, according to Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper. Stamkos played just over five minutes in the contest but remained on the bench for the second and third periods.
Per Coop, it is a lower-body injury for Steven Stamkos, who did not play in the second or third periods tonight.

“He wanted to be on the bench with his teammates and cheer them on,” Cooper said. “I thought that was a big move for him and us.”
Cooper offered no updates on the severity of Stamkos’ injury, and it’s not known whether the 29-year-old forward will have to miss additional time. Tampa Bay was also without Nikita Kucherov on Thursday.
Stamkos leads the Lightning with 20 points (seven goals) this season.
