I have been reading books on spirituality for the last few years, ever since my sufferings peaked. I feel better now, but I am not completely free of my mind. I watch the mind, sometimes I get taken over by it, and sometimes don’t.
I know about most of the famous spiritual teachers, but recently, one of my friends introduced me to an anonymous spiritual teacher, aptly named Anon I mus. I spent some time on his website, Facebook page and YouTube channel, and here is how I can summarise his teachings and my perspectives about them.
- Being Anonymous
Anon I mus stresses the fact that the main reason he wants to stay anonymous is because he sees people getting attracted to the form and the past of a spiritual teacher. He uses the famous analogy of Finger pointing to the moon, and the need for a seeker to stop glorifying spiritual teachers and focus more on the message. He appears in his videos and pictures with his face masked out. Cool effects there. I wonder what software he uses… just kidding.
- Purpose of the Universe
When a person starts seeking spirituality, some of the important questions facing him/her include: What is the purpose of the Universe? What is the purpose of my life? What I am to do with my life? Anon I mus explains that, before the world existed, before the big bang, when there was only the pure consciousness, there was much creativity, energy, love that the Universe was born to express, explore and expand itself. To know itself, consciousness took birth into form. No-thing wouldn’t know itself unless there is a thing. Get it?
- Dualistic world and suffering
The Universe exists in duality: Hot/cold, male/female, high/low, etc. As the consciousness forgets itself in this dance of forms, the illusion of separation gets created. As identification with form increases (thoughts and emotions), a sense of separation appears to be the reality and then suffering arises. The pain of suffering then becomes the motivation for human beings to know their true nature and thus awaken. The game of hide and seek ends when consciousness knows itself.
- To achieve peace
Anon I mus tells us to drop all the mind stuff; attachments, fears, desires, ambitions, beliefs, etc., as they are only a hindrance from being fully ourselves. Awareness is the key. Be aware of all that is going on in the mind by being the observer, thus going above the thought patterns instead of being dragged into them unconsciously. Anon I mus doesn’t refer to any spiritual practices, as he believes that following practices has, in itself, given us an excuse to becoming ambitious about achieving something when there is nothing to achieve; just to be.
- Business practices with spirituality
Anon I mus strongly believes that all spiritual teachings have to be free and discourages making a business out of the teachings. All teachings come out of the one consciousness and so it is not a property of any single person to sell and make money out of. I kinda disagree with him here. In our world though we are awakening spiritually and realising how dysfunctional our social and economic structures are, we need to find a vehicle for making the teachings available to many people and also make a living. This is just my perspective.
To summarize, I love this guy and the work he is doing. He is putting a lot of hard work and his efforts are highly commendable. Beginners who have never heard of spiritual topics will find his videos interesting. His language is simple and straight forward. He is regularly putting up helpful spiritual messages on his Facebook and Tumblr page, and he even offers a free e-book on his website. I find his teachings very close to that of Eckhart Tolle, but the message sounds more poetic than practical. With that being said, you should definitely check out his teachings and possibly gain new perspectives. His videos carry great visual effects, not to mention his words of wisdom. Peace!
