The biggest box office attraction in the history of mixed martial arts returns for the first time in 15 months on Saturday night at UFC 246 when Conor McGregor battles Donald Cerrone in welterweight action from the T-Mobile Arena.
McGregor (21-4), the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles (featherweight and lightweight) at the same time, competes for the first time since losing to current 155-pound champion Khabib Nurmagomedov by fourth-round submission at UFC 229 in October 2018. During the lead-up to his return, McGregor’s showed no vitriol towards Cerrone and been highly complimentary of the man he’ll share the octagon with.
“He has my respect and although there will be blood spilled on Jan. 18, it will not be bad blood,” McGregor said at Wednesday’s UFC 246 pre-fight press conference. “And for the “Mystic Mac” prediction, it will be a KO.”

Cerrone (36-13, one no-contest) enters the contest on a two-fight losing streak to Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje at lightweight. “Cowboy” has taken some of the best the UFC has to offer. But facing McGregor is the pinnacle for the guy who has the most wins and stoppages in UFC history.
“It’s cool to finally get what I deserve,” Cerrone said at the presser. “It’s cool. Thank you, Conor, and you’re right, you do bring the biggest paydays. You do bring the biggest eyes. So, f—k, why not have ‘Cowboy?'”
